Marijuana Decriminalization Efforts in Washington and Oregon

It’s been 14 years since Washington and Oregon legalized medical marijuana. This election cycle, a broader legalization measure will be on the ballot in Washington, Initiative 502. In Oregon, there may be two decriminalization efforts on the ballot.

At UW ElectionEye,  examines the differences in the legal status of marijuana in the two states. Although late last year Governor Gregoire “petitioned the federal government to reclassify marijuana as a drug that can be prescribed by doctors and filled by pharmacists,” neither Rob McKenna or Jay Inslee, the front-runners for governor, support legalization.
